Have you heard? Collinsville Library has a better way to listen to audiobooks!
If you aren't familiar with Playaways, you'll want to check them out. A Playaway is a small audio player that comes preloaded with an entire audiobook, regardless of length. You don't need a separate player, and you don't have to worry about several cassettes or CDS; just press play! It's perfect for people of all ages and gives you the portability to catch up with a good book wherever you are. Plus, they're small enough to carry around in your pocket - so your favorite book can go anywhere you do!
Join us at the Collinsville Library on March 9, 2010 1:00-7:00pm for our very own Play Away Day. Friends of the Collinsville Library will serve refreshments, have a large selection of titles for you to peruse, and a free lanyard for the first 20 customers who check out a PlayAway. Sonic will provide coupons for free cherry limeades and ice cream cones for all who try out the PlayAway.

Spring Weather Precautions
|
|
|
Rainy Weather Driving Tips: 1. When driving on the freeway, try to drive in center lanes as water tends to pool in the outside lanes 2. Turn your headlights on 3. Increase your following distance 4. SLOW DOWN-it takes longer to stop in wet weather 5. Drive slowly through any puddle of uncertain depth 6. NEVER drive through moving water
Maintenance tips: 1. Replace old or brittle wiper blades 2. Check the tread and inflation of your tires 3. Consider carrying a portable car starter with you
TORNADO Precautions & Preparations: 1. Properly design a "safe room" or in-ground tornado shelter 2. If your house has a basement, find a place where you will be safe from falling debris 3. If no basement, on the first floor find a closet, hallway, or bathroom without windows. Try to put as many walls between you and the outside as possible. Bathrooms often survive tornadoes because the plumbing in the walls provides added structural strength to those walls. If you do use a bathroom, the bathtub is a good option to lay in. Try putting a mattress over you for extra protection 4. If you live in a mobile home, abandon it immediately. Have a proper shelter pre-selected, which needs to be reached in 5 minutes or less 5. Buy a weather radio and use it 6. Stay away from windows and don't open windows to "relieve the air pressure" this has been shown to be a myth 7. If you have helmets of any kind this would be good to put on for protection 8. Have a tornado kit ready at all times near or in your designated tornado shelter, including: first aide kit, special needs for family members, nonperishable food items, battery powered radio, a flashlight, spare shoes, spare clothing, blankets, a whistle or other loud noisemaker, cell phone 9. If you have time turn off all electricity and gas but ONLY if you have time 10. Make sure EVERYONE in the family knows the details of the plan and rehearse going to shelter at least once a year

 UP
WITH
TREES
Trees are essential to life, and the foundation is giving away 1 million trees across the United States. One acre of forest puts out 4 tons of oxygen – enough for 18 people for one year – and removes 6 tons of carbon dioxide, a contributor to global climate change. Trees also bring nature into our city environments, and provide habitat for wildlife.
Apache Corporation and Up with Trees have partnered to bring you the Free Tree program where individuals, families and businesses can apply to receive up to four free trees. Select from large shade trees, medium shade trees, flowering trees and evergreens. Apply today to receive your free trees!
